The Vermont Department of Liquor and Lottery (The DLL) is excited to collaborate with the Vermont Principal’s Association. The DLL works hard to ensure the safe and responsible purchase and consumption of liquor, lottery, and sports gaming throughout the state. Our top priority is the health and safety of our Vermont communities.
The DLL, in collaboration with the Vermont Department of Mental Health (DMH) and the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG), recognizes March as Problem Gambling Awareness Month. This month is dedicated to increasing public awareness of problem gambling and the availability of prevention, treatment, and recovery services.
Problem gambling is defined as gambling behavior patterns that compromise, disrupt, or damage personal, family, or vocational pursuits. Approximately 2.5 million U.S. adults (1% of the population) are estimated to meet the criteria for severe problem gambling. The DLL has partnered with VPA to share information and engage the Vermont high school athletic community in valuable discussions about problem gambling. For more information about problem gambling and how to increase awareness of problem gambling, visit: http://www.ncpgambling.org/FAQs.
If you or someone you know has a gambling problem, please call or text the National Problem Gambling Helpline at 1-800-GAMBLER or visit www.vtgamblinghelp.org. Help is available 24/7/365 – it is free and confidential. Helpline staff is uniquely qualified to provide support and has lived experience with this disorder.
The DLL and the DMH strive to provide Vermonters with opportunities to engage in safe and healthy play, and seek to mitigate harm caused by problem gambling patterns.
