Principal of the Year Criteria
Each year the Vermont Principals’ Association honors distinguished educational leaders at its annual VPA Leadership Academy in August.
The Vermont Principals’ Associations seeks nominations for its Principal of the Year Awards from now through February 7, 2025. The VPA Executive Council, in wanting to select outstanding award winners will conduct reference inquiries on each nominee and welcomes nominations before the February 7, 2025 deadline. Special note: school leaders must be current members of the Vermont Principals’ Association in order to be selected for an award.
Nominations are welcome from VPA members, colleagues, school board members, superintendents or the general public. The VPA Awards Committee made up of the VPA Executive Council, the previous year’s award winners and VPA staff reviews all nominations, and make reference inquiries on each nominee.
The VPA Executive Council believes that checking references is an essential part of the selection process. Reference inquiries will be made on all nominees considered for an award.
From the nominations received, the selection committee considers awardees for these awards:
Vermont Career Center Director of the Year; NASSP High School Principal of the Year; Middle Level Principal of the Year; NAESP National Distinguished Principal (elementary principal of the year); and Assistant Principals of the Year.
