The Vermont Department of Liquor and Lottery (DLL) is excited to collaborate with VPA this athletics season. The DLL works hard to ensure the safe and responsible purchase and consumption of liquor, lottery, and sports gaming products throughout the state. Our top priority is the health and safety of our customers. The DLL, in collaboration with the American Gaming Association (AGA), recognizes September as Responsible Gaming Education Month. This month is dedicated to fostering responsible gaming practices so that better remains fun and safe.

The DLL has partnered with VPA to share information and engage the Vermont high school athletic community in valuable discussions about enjoying gaming as entertainment – in a legal, safe, healthy way. We encourage eligible players to stay intentional about their play – keep it light, fun, and in line with their personal goals.

Every time players open an app, buy a ticket, or place a bet, they should make sure
they’re playing smart from the start by:

  • Having the Right State of Mind: Start every gaming experience with the right mindset. Stay present in the game, know your limits and play on your terms. Limit alcohol and other substances. If the fun fades, take a step back.
  • Know the Game: Knowing the odds and rules helps you stay in the game longer and keeps wagering fun, win or lose.
  • Have A Plan: Set a time limit and a budget before you play.
  • Play Legally: Players must be 18 to buy lottery tickets, and 21 to place a sports bet or play casino games.

The DLL strives to provide Vermonters with opportunities to engage in safe and healthy play. For more information on how to play responsibly, visit VtGamblingHelp.org. or haveagameplan.org. Smart Play Keeps Gaming Fun! #RGEM2025
