VPA SPELLING COMMITTEE

Members Present: Dick Shanley, Thom Fleury, Rich Jacobs, John Dilts, Risa Manciillas, Bob Johnson

Minutes:

- correspondence – discussed issue of supervisory competitions being done during NECAP testing time. Bottom line is that there is no good time during the school year as there are too many potential conflicts. Scripps and Geo-Bee competitions are done in the Spring. We also run into holiday conflicts beginning in November. Consensus is to continue with timelines as they currently are.

Additional correspondence concerning timing of the competition and youth hunting day (first Saturday in November). Same feeling as with testing issue. No action taken.

- review of 2006 competition. Overall, things went well. Problem in NE with coaches dispute, but it got resolved. Small issue with spelling list but it got corrected. State competition went fine.

- discussion on 2007 competition. Sites will be determined after the registrations come in on October 15th. Neshobe, Lyndon Town and Hinesburg/Charlotte will be sites. John will contact Lowell Walker about being the Pronouncer. Mary Cassarino has agreed to do a regional and the state final. Risa will talk with Nora Lacroix. Other pronouncers will be located once we know sites.

State championships will be at Northfield HS on Saturday, November17th. 5/6 competition will be at 10:00, 7/8 at noon.

- Risa will get word cycles to Bob. Bob will send them to the committee for review and updates. Discussed possible meeting in Spring/Summer to update word lists.

- If an additional meeting is needed after October 15th, Bob will let committee know (possible conference call).
