The
regional and state spelling competitions are organized by teams
on two grade levels: fifth/sixth and seventh/eighth.
There are five regional competitions. The
regional winners then compete to determine the state champions at
each grade level.

SCRIPPS
Individual Spelling Competition - The
Scripps Individual Spelling competition for Vermont will be held
on
Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at St. Michael's College. The winner of
this competition will then participate in the National competition
in late May 2008.
Students
in grades 1 through 8 (maximum age of 13) are eligible to compete
in this competition. Every elementary and middle school is able
to conduct a local competition in February 2008 and send their representative
to the state competition in March. Schools must register by October
15, 2007 in order to avoid the registration fee. After October 15th,
schools will be responsible for paying a registration fee in order
to participate.
