Minutes of the Executive Council, November 16, 2006:
Members in attendance: Pres. Peter Evans; Pres.-Elect Laurie Singer; Ned Kirsch, Tracy Gallo, DOE (guest); Madeline Young, Judi Maynard, Dick Kraemer, Lynn Coale, Deb Price, Rob Bliss, Steve Houghton, Bob Johnson, Meg Powden, June Sargent, Joe Bowen, Bob Stevens
1. Approved the minutes of the August 10th meeting, and August 24th conference call.
2. Heard the following reports:
President Peter Evans;
Written NAESP report from David Cobb;
NASSP report from Joseph Bowen
Federal Relations report from Madeline Young
NFHS Report from Steve Houghton
DOE Updates from Tracy Gallo
Executive Director’s report from Bob Stevens
3.Executive Council has been invited to lunch with the State Board of Education on January 16th.
4. Bob Stevens reported there will be a Small Schools Conference on November 9, 2007.
5. Updated the Executive Council on regional meetings being held around the state.
6. Updated the Executive Council on plans for the Principals’ Institute Winter and Spring Meetings.
7. Updated the Executive Council on sponsorships for VPA activities. Two schools did not want the National Guard at their fields, which created additional work for the VPA office.
8. Conferences are currently being planed for New Principals and Aspiring Principals. New principals will be December 13th at the VPA office, and aspiring principals will be January 26, 2007.
9. The Executive Director informed the Executive Council of plans the web master is developing to redo the VPA web site.
10. There was discussion concerning the VPA’s new role with Leadership Academy and the fact that the VSAC grant for $40,000 saved the VPA from losing money.
11. The viability of both the VPA2 and Student Council organizations was brought to question. The structure of both organizations will be reviewed during this year.
12. A presentation by Joe Zimmerman outlined the structure and values of VSBIT.
13. Plans for Executive Council retreat on February 1 and 2 will be outlined. It will be held in Lyndonville.
14. Bob Johnson reported on the activities of committees and the ASC. Concerns were expressed about the appeals process.
15. Peter Evans reminded the Council of the need to select new board members before the annual meeting in May.
