GOLF COMMITTEE Members Present: Bob Sinclair, Bob Caggige, Brian McCarthy, Paul Wheeler, Carl Backman, Sean Farrell, Gary Girard, Vince Buttice, Bob Johnson Minutes: - motion by Bob S., second by Gary, to have Ed Cooke serve as committee chair. Approved unanimously. - motion by Paul, second by Brian to accept minutes of 5/24/07. Approved unanimously. - discussion on survey for Girl’s golf. Question is what format of teams do we want. Three possible formats, 3 players/2 score, 4 players/2 score, 4 players/3 score. Bob J. will survey school’s with girl’s golf. One other issue surrounds whether players should grouped by division or should they be grouped by ability. Decision by the committee to group players by ability in Spring 2008. - discussion on request from Middlebury Country Club to charge $10 per player for any practice round before the state championship. Motion by Paul, second by Brian, to allow Middlebury to charge $10 per practice round before the state championship. Motion approved unanimously. This needs to be highlighted in the guide. - correspondence – at a recent meeting of course Pro’s in Vermont, an issue with Coaches was brought up. Should coaches be allowed to play or should they be required to monitor their players? Bob J. is still trying to set up a meeting for this Fall between the VGA and the VPA to discuss issues. Behavior of players and pace of play are other issues to be discussed. VGA has said they would conduct rules clinics in the Spring if desired. This will be strongly encouraged for every school as it may eliminate many issues we are now facing.. - review of 2007 season. Problem with order of divisions in Boys. It was not done as listed in the guide. Order will remain D 2, D 3, D 1 for Spring 2008. We also need to clarify the weather procedures. Girl’s event was shortened due to rain and lightening. If 9 holes are not completed, then we will reschedule for another day, but we may have to use another course. Procedures need to be listed in the guide. - dates/sectionals |
